The
1972 Corvette marked many “lasts” for the Vette.
Last
to have chrome bumpers front and rear
Last
to offer air conditioning with a solid lifter engine
Last
to have a removable rear window
Last
to have the hidden windshield wiper feature
Last
to have a metal grille

The
horsepower ratings dropped in 1971 (mostly due to
terminology) but was a signal that the Corvette was on its way down as
a high powered sports car. The gas
crunch of the 1970’s was just around the corner as well as pollution
controls. In
my opinion, 1972 was one of the last years of the performance era of the
Corvette (at least for a decade or more).
I am partial to the classics anyway. After
finally finding my “perfect” car, I decided to start performing a frame-on
restoration. I’m not interested in
NCRS judging. I want a car that is fun
to drive but still close to original. This
website will document my restoration process. |
